Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started

How does AR Draw work?

AR Draw uses your phone's camera to overlay a reference image on top of a real surface (like a sheet of paper). You look at your screen and trace the lines you see — your hand draws the actual sketch on paper. It feels like magic, and it works for everyone, regardless of skill level.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. AR Draw works entirely offline. The only feature that needs the internet is in-app purchases (handled by Apple's StoreKit).

Which devices are supported?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later. The "Draw in AR" mode additionally requires an ARKit-capable device (iPhone 6s or newer, iPad Pro, iPad 5th generation or newer).

Permissions

Why does AR Draw need camera access?

The camera is the heart of all "Trace" features — we use it to display the live view behind your drawing. The camera feed is never uploaded or stored.

Why does it need access to my Photos?

Read access lets you import your own photos and turn them into sketches via "Trace Your Photo". Write access lets the app save your finished drawings and videos to your camera roll.

Why does it need the microphone?

Only if you choose to record audio along with your drawing video. The mic is otherwise unused.

I denied a permission by mistake. How do I re-enable it?

Open the iOS Settings app, scroll down to AR Draw, and toggle the permission back on.

Drawing & AR

Why is my drawing wobbly when I move my phone?

In "Draw with Camera" mode, the reference image is anchored to the screen, not the world — moving the phone moves the image. For a fixed reference in 3D space, use "Draw in AR" instead. Tap a flat surface to pin the sketch; you can then walk around freely.

The AR mode says "tap a surface" but nothing happens.

ARKit needs a few seconds of camera movement to detect a flat surface. Slowly pan the phone over a well-lit, textured surface (paper, wood, fabric) — once detected, your tap will pin the image. If detection keeps failing, our fallback places the image roughly 60 cm in front of the camera so you always get feedback.

How do I record my drawing process as a video?

Tap the red Record button (top-right). When you tap stop, the video is saved to your Photos library. The recording only captures the camera feed, not the on-screen overlay — so your finished video looks like you drew everything from scratch.

How do I change the opacity or lock the reference?

Use the bottom toolbar inside any trace screen: slider controls opacity; Lock prevents accidental zoom/pan; Flip mirrors the image; Rotate turns it 90°; Reset returns it to the original position.

Lessons & Gallery

How many drawings can I trace?

The app ships with 100+ subjects across 13 categories: Anime, Animals, Ocean, Dinosaurs, Birds, Insects, Fantasy, Space, Vehicles, Food, Sports, Nature, and Holidays. New subjects are added periodically.

Can I import my own photos?

Yes — use Trace Your Photo. Pick any photo from your library and AR Draw will turn it into a clean sketch you can trace.

Subscriptions & Purchases

What's included in Premium?

Premium unlocks all gallery characters, all lessons, removes ads, and enables high-resolution export.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, find AR Draw, and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Premium until the end of the current billing period.

I want a refund.

All payments are handled by Apple, so refund requests must go directly to Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the AR Draw purchase, and choose "Request a refund". Apple usually responds within 48 hours.

I bought Premium on another device — how do I restore it?

Open the app, go to the Profile tab → SettingsRestore Purchases. You must be signed in with the same Apple ID that made the purchase.

My purchase isn't unlocking the features.

Try the following in order:

  1. Tap Restore Purchases in Settings.
  2. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID that made the purchase.
  3. Force-quit and reopen the app.
  4. Restart your device.
  5. If still stuck, email us with your receipt and we'll help.

Languages

The app is in the wrong language.

Open the app, go to Profile tab → SettingsLanguage, and pick your preferred language. The change applies immediately without restarting the app.

Why isn't my language supported?

AR Draw currently supports 12 languages: English, Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Hindi, Indonesian, Arabic, Turkish, German, French, Chinese, and Japanese. If your language isn't on the list, email us — we add new languages based on user requests.

Privacy & Data

Does AR Draw track me?

No. AR Draw does not contain any analytics, ad SDK, or telemetry. We do not know that you have installed the app, what you do inside it, or what you draw. All processing happens entirely on your device.

How do I delete my data?

All data is stored on your device. Uninstalling AR Draw removes everything, including preferences, favorites, and progress. Drawings and videos you saved to your Photos library remain there until you delete them yourself.

Troubleshooting

The app crashes when I open it.

Try restarting your device, then opening the app again. If that doesn't help, uninstall and reinstall the app. If the crash continues, email us with your device model and iOS version.

The camera is black or shows an error.

Check that you have granted camera permission (Settings → AR Draw → Camera). If permission is on but the camera still doesn't work, close any other apps that might be using the camera (Zoom, FaceTime, Instagram), then reopen AR Draw.

I lost my drawings.

Drawings are saved to your Photos library by default. Check Photos app → Recents or the album named "AR Draw" if you've configured one. The in-app gallery only shows drawings you marked as favorites — it does not store the images themselves.
